Die Forschungsgruppe G.O. Mueller referiert in der Ergänzung des Kapitels 4 ihrer Dokumentation 2394 weitere kritische Veröffentlichungen diese Arbeit von Lee Smolin:

Stellt das Problem der Allgemeinen Relativitätstheorie mit unendlich großen Materiedichten dar (S. 5): “At the point at which the density becomes infinite, the equations of general relativity break down. Some people interpret this as time stopping, but a more sober view is that the theory is just inadequate.”

Feiert dennoch die Allgemeine Relativitätstheorie durchgängig als die großartige Grundlage der theoretischen Physik, insbesondere die Vereinigung von Beschleunigung und Gravitation (S. 40): “Einstein recalled realizing that a person falling from the roof of a building would feel no effects of gravity as he fell. He called this “the most fortunate thought of my life,” and he made it into a principle, which he called the ‘principle of equivalence’. It says that the effects of acceleration are indistinguishable from the effects of gravity [Fußnote 2]. – So Einstein succeeded in unifying all kinds of motion. Uniform motion is indistinguishable from rest. And acceleration is no different from being at rest but with a gravitational field turned on. – The unification of acceleration with gravity was a unification with great consequences. …”

Während im Text (S. 40) das Äquivalenzprinzip erfolgreich die Beschleunigung und die Wirkung eines Gravitationsfeldes als nicht unterscheidbar erweist, heißt es in der Fußnote 2, die sich erst auf S. 360 findet: “There is a caveat, which is that this applies only to observations that take place in small regions of place over small intervals of time. If you fall far enough to see that the strength of the gravitational field changes, you can distinguish gravity from acceleration.”

Beschreibt – als Hauptthema des Buches – am Beispiel der ausschließlichen Förderung der Stringtheorie in der theoretischen Physik seit 2 Jahrzehnten dieselben Strukturen des Faches, mit denen seit 90 Jahren die Spezielle Relativitätstheorie als die einzig wahre Wahrheit am Leben gehalten wird: den Machtmißbrauch der akademischen Gremien zum Ausschluß aller Nicht-Anhänger der Stringtheorie von den Forschungsmöglichkeiten. Die Parallele zur Stigmatisierung der Speziellen Relativitätstheorie-Kritiker sieht der Autor allerdings nicht.

— Man fragt sich, was eine “unification with great consequences” wert ist, wenn der Autor dann doch zugeben muß: “you can distinguish gravity from acceleration.”
